Hemp and Marijuana are like Lemons and Oranges
One of the first things you’ll want to talk about is the difference between hemp and marijuana. Because all the focus has been on marijuana for over 50 years, many people aren’t aware that there’s a BIG difference!
Think of it this way - hemp and marijuana are to cannabis the same way that lemons and oranges are to citrus. While both lemons and oranges are in the citrus “family”, they’re different plants - ever try to bite into a lemon slice thinking it was an orange?! Definitely very different!! Well, hemp and marijuana are in a similar situation, because while they’re both cannabis plants, they have been bred and grown to have very different features.
While in general hemp and marijuana look and smell very similar, there are differences - the biggest is that hemp has a THC level of less than .03%, and marijuana has a THC level of anything more than .03%. In layman’s terms, hemp doesn’t typically get you “high”, but marijuana does! Read more about hemp vs marijuana HERE.
CBD is the “Calm Kid” in the Family
If we’re talking about CBD, why did we start the conversation talking about hemp vs marijuana? Well, just like hemp and marijuana are both cannabis plants, CBD and THC are both cannabinoids (there are many, many plant-based cannabinoids). And just like the focus has been on marijuana (vs hemp), when it comes to cannabinoids, the focus has primarily been on THC - forgetting all about CBD!
An easy way to think about THC and CBD is to think of them as kids in a family. Just like every family has a “wild” child and a “calm” kid, so does the family of cannabinoids. In the cannabinoid family, THC is the “wild child” - linked to many great health benefits - but most famously known for it’s “high” effect, while CBD is the “calm kid” - naturally wanting to keep the peace, keep things calm and maintain balance in the house. While THC has many benefits, CBD is often overlooked! In fact, people who take THC for serious illnesses like cancer, epilepsy, and PTSD often take CBD to counteract the “high” feelings they get from THC, so they can still get the much-needed benefits and still function throughout their day. Focus on the Benefits
Another way to start the conversation is to bring up the benefits of CBD. It affects your endocannabinoid system - whose main job is to maintain balance in your body. Whether you find yourself struggling to manage your stress, searching for the perfect formula to getting a good night’s sleep, or dealing with inflammation and the aches and pains that come with it, when your endocannabinoid system is operating at its best, it keeps your body in balance! Adding CBD to your daily routine can support your body in keeping the balance in your body - supporting all these areas!
Share how it’s impacted your life
There’s nothing more compelling than telling family and friends about a personal experience. Better than citing statistics or studies, sharing how your life has been positively impacted since you’ve added CBD into your daily routine can leave a lasting impression. Are you sleeping better? Feeling more focused? Less stressed? What about those aches and pains you used to feel - but arenow just a distant memory? Share specifically how CBD has improved your day-to-day life.
