From Avocado Toast to Peanut Butter Cups: A Guide to Eating CBD with High-Fat Foods
CBD is a popular wellness product that many people use to help improve sleep, recover faster, and live an overall more balanced life. If you're considering incorporating (or already have) CBD into your routine, it's important to know that what you eat with it can have an impact on its effectiveness.
Consuming CBD
Just like how a car needs the right kind of fuel to run efficiently, your body needs the right kind of food to maximize the benefits of CBD. Eating the right foods with CBD can be like putting premium gas in your car, making sure it runs at its best.
CBD is a molecule that does not bind easily with water. This means that when you consume CBD, it may not be fully absorbed by the body. However, when you consume CBD with high-fat foods, the CBD molecules can bind with the fat molecules, making it easier for your body to absorb and utilize.
Some of the best high-fat foods to eat with CBD include:
- Peanut butter: Peanut butter is a popular choice for pairing with CBD. It's high in healthy fats and protein, making it a great choice for a balanced snack.
- Nut milk: Nut milk, such as almond or cashew milk, are another great option for consuming CBD. They're high in healthy fats and can be used in a variety of recipes, including smoothies and baked goods.
- Dairy products: Dairy products, such as cheese and yogurt, are also high in fat and can be paired with CBD. Just be sure to choose high-quality, organic options whenever possible.
- Hemp hearts: Hemp hearts are the edible seeds of the hemp plant and are a great source of healthy fats. They can be added to smoothies, salads, or eaten as a snack on their own.
CBD and High-Fat Foods
A study published in the journal Epilepsia found that consuming CBD with high-fat foods increased the amount of CBD that was absorbed by the body. In fact, participants who consumed CBD with a high-fat meal absorbed four times more CBD than those who consumed CBD on an empty stomach.
It's important to note that while consuming CBD with high-fat foods may increase its effectiveness, it's still important to make sure you’re using the right dosage for your body. Everyone’s body interacts differently with CBD so what may work for someone you know, may not be the right dosage for you. And while most products provide a general dosing guide, it might not be the right amount for your body.
CBD Dosing with Food
It's always a good idea to start with low doses and adjust slowly by either adding more or less. Weekly increases are a consistent way to make those changes and will help you figure out the dose that works best for you, or what we like to refer to as your "sweet spot."
